My paintings are about contrast: the assumed beauty of flowers on mysterious, sometimes sinister backgrounds; the dark contrasting sharply with the light; the hard edges contrasting with the translucency and soft contours of the petals; and the overly large scale (all the flowers are painted on one-metre square canvases).
