Silk scarves have a luxurious, lustrous beauty. They also have some very practical properties when worn. Silk really does feel cool against the skin in summer heat and warm in the winter cold, an apparent paradox that is due to its low thermal conductivity. Its smooth, soft texture is due to the fine individual silk fibres; so fine, they were used to define the original denier scale.
